Student Champs

Congratulations to the Uni team for performing so well at the KUGB Student Championships. Alex, Tyrone and Graham brought home 1st place in the Team Kata with Ciaran, Tim and Kerry coming 2nd. Ciaran then went on to win the brown belt Kata event too. Fantastic result guys!

Double Silver at the Shotokan Cup

Awesome result for Meleri for getting Silver in both the girl’s kata and kumite events.  Well done indeed!  Also well done for Steve Bailey for narrowly missing out on the boys kata finals, hoping you get the luck you deserve next time, eh?

Most of the videos were accidentally recorded in slow motion.  Great for analysing detail but not so good to watch.  If anyone fancies converting them to normal speed let us know :)

National Youth Championships, Chesterfield

Well done! to Meleri, Steve B and Anya, who competed at the National Youth Championships in Chesterfield on Saturday 3rd July. They all performed well, and came away with even more medals and trophies! Meleri righted a wrong from the Welsh Champs, repeating the same kata and winning gold in the individual girls black belt kata. Anya did well in the individual girls brown belt kata, taking silver after narrowly missing out on gold by only 0.1 point, and the team kata were narrowly beaten in the finals, winning themselves a 3rd place and some bronze medals. Steve missed out on a place in the individual boys black belt kata after losing in the eliminations against some very strong opposition.

Train With The Champions – Torbay 2010

It was an excellent week. Pete Bonser gained his instructor’s qualification on the Tuesday. Thursday’s kata competition went well with Steve Bailey taking second in the black belt kata, Scott Fleming taking first in the brown belt kata and Kerry Thomas, Tim Hudson and Iwan Roderick came first, third and fourth in the colour belt competition.

As usual the course was top notch, mentally and physically exhausting but extremely rewarding and inspirational as always.

WSKA World Championships – Mexico

Sensei Paul narrowly misses out on the medals.

Disappointment as Paul James loses in the quarter finals of the individual kata after a split decision against the eventual winner, Akio Tamashiro of Peru.

The second outing for the new Welsh Kata Team narrowly missed the finals with a commendable 6th place, a couple of places higher than at last year’s European Championships showing steady improvement.
